I just love this one...

Fito, a poet or a musician?

We also have good rock singers in Spain!!!!Well a mixture of styles. I suggest that you go to a concert of his if you like the group. Awesome!

maybe the name of the group is familiar to you. You may know some songs...check the ones below...

I admire this guy, Fito Cabrales. Loak at how quick he can play the guitar!

Bento

I was reading the paper when I found this amazing piece of news. Bento is a type of Japanese food to take away, similar to a packed lunch. Have a look at the video if interested (here). It's hard to believe Japanese mums spend nearly 2 hours per day in creating these edible pieces of art. The harder thing is they attend lessons!!

Could you eat the poor goose so beautifully painted? I think I could, not so sure about the "blue" rice, though!

A tribute to the best singer ever. My idol!

John Winston Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 ( during WWII).

Little John with his uncle George.
John with his auntie Mimi, who took care of him on his childhood.
John's father, Freddie Lennon, wasn't a very good dad. Their parents got divorced when he was 5. His dad didn't want to know anything about John till he became rich and famous. What a cheek!

You can see John and his mother Julia, who taught him how to play the banjo and ukelele. Unfortunately, she was killed by a car driven by a drunk off-duty policeman.
The Quarrymen, John's first band. He was aged 15 when he met Paul McCartney...and the story begins right here...
Gorgeous Cynthia Powell, John's first wife. At the beginning of their career, The Beatles didn't want people to know he was married. Young girls were crazy about them...

He married his second wife, Yoko Ono, on 19th, March, 1969, in Gibraltar. For some people she was responsible for The Beatles' break-up.Julian Lennon and Sean Lennon. You can tell which one is Yoko's and who's Cynthia's.

John having a lollipop while resting from shooting "How I Won the War", a film made in Almería.

He also wrote 2 books.
He was very creative, he tried drawing as well.

During the Vietnam War, they spent 2 weeks in bed asking for peace. One in Montreal and another one in Amsterdam.

Mark David Chapman assassinated John on December 8, 1980 outside The Dakota Building, where Lennon lived with his wife, Yoko Ono. Mad Mark asked him for an autograph and while taking a picture of them he said , " This picture will be historic!". Later that night, he went back to the building and waited for John to arrive. When he saw Lennon he asked: "Mr. Lennon?". Then, he aimed 5 shots at him and , unfortunately, 4 of them hit him in the back.

He claimed he had heard a voice encouraging him to kill this great singer..

R.I.P. Mr. Lennon!!

Continue the story...

Task: Continue the following story.

It is dark outside and you are alone in an old house. On the wall there is a picture of a strange man with eyes that are alive and watching you. There is a room in this old house which makes you cold when you enter it, cold all the way down your back. And this is the room where, long ago, somebody died- very suddenly.

I have typed here the best story two girls from 3º of ESO wrote.

I entered in a bedroom, but something strange happened. The door closed. It was dark, so I looked for my torch. I was scared and I tried to go out, but I couldn't. I heard a scary laugh. I started to shout and someone said, " Silence, please. I want to tell you something". I couldn't believe it, I was really surprised. I heard again the mystery voice. It wass a man and he wanted revenge, because he has been killed.

He told me he was rich. He lived in a big house and he had all he always wished for but he didn't find love. One day, he met a pretty girl and they fell in love. Later, they got maried. He was reading in their bedroom, and his wife gave him some wine. When he was drinking the wine, his wife told him the drink was poisonous and told him she wanted him for his money. Then, he died while the murderer was laughing.

I listened to the story and I thought I should help him. I asked him, "How can I help you?", but nobody answered. I looked for him in the room, but he wasn't there any more. The door opened again and I went out. I returnedd to the hall, and I looked at the picture. The man had disappeared, but there was a dead woman instead. Behind her there was a man laughing because he finally revenged his death.

Almudena H. and Ana N.

Pretty good stuff, girls! Sorry for the delay.

Movember me!

Movember is a month-long event celebrated every year around the world. Instead of running or walking to raise some money, men grow

moustaches. Movember Foundation charity raise funds for men's health issues ( for example, prostate cancer or depression).

There is a kind of competition, I'll write some rules:

1) You must begin Nov 1st with a clean shaven face.
2) Your mo mustn´t join or touch your sideburns ( patillas) because it would be considered a beard.

Let me introduce you to a friend of mine who is growing his own mo. ( Some of you might have seen him in Broadstairs). We'll see at the end of the month how big it can get!

By the way, for those who love music, click on the picture below.

short Stories

Here you have a selection of very small stories to read when on holiday. They are quite easy, a good way to learn more vocabulary for next year...Some of them have audios so it's like killing two birds with one stone, isn't it?

The Archers

The best way to improve your listening skill is by listening...
Click on the link at the bottom and listen to a brand new chapter every day( well, on week days, I think ). You can download them onto your mp3, Ipod, mobile or computer...and listen to them while sunbathing.

The Archers is a long-running British soap opera, which began in the 1950s. I like it a lot because it´s so well produced, every little sound is recorded...the birds, cars, every noise to make it, if possible, more real! Besides the English spoken is fairly understandable.

Let me give you a piece of advice...
1) Go to the kitchen, make yourself some nice pop-corn
2) Go to your lounge and sit on a comfy sofa, dim light...
3) Put all your senses while watching because there are no subtitles. SORRY!

Echad in vistazo al que yo he hecho.

Good luck!!

Watch the video if you need some help...

Obama´s speech

Listen to American President, Barack Obama. There are plenty of things you can recognise easily: different tenses, conditionals, the passive voice.

Learn new vocabulary and pay attention to the pronunciation of known and unknown words, as well as the intonation.

Some English Pronouns

While I was marking your exams,I realised you still have some problems with the English pronouns. You use "your" for every person...I´m afraid that is not correct. Have a look at the table and study it if you don´t remember the correct ones.

More practice...

The How to be British Collection

I have just found a very interesting site where you can see funny cards about the British culture. It is known as The How to be British Collection. I´m not sure but I think there are 3 books. I bought two of them while living in England.

The strange thing is that when you are living there and find these hilarious books you realise that every word that is written there is true. I mean it, everything! From the foreigners who go to a pub in a snow-covered British town with their heavy, warm coats ( while the native females are wearing a tiny skirt, a top, high heels...without a coat or tights...remember it´s December...!) to the poor foreign student who is attached to a cloth drying the dishes...every day...Enjoy!
